Church

Church

A place

Where hypocrites gather

to rub well-dressed shoulders

And greet each other

with a holier-than-thou handshake

Church

A place

Where we weekly repeat the Biblical stories

That somehow fail to shock us despite

their multi-layered sad endings

As long as God’s people win, we cheer

Church

A place where we celebrate judgment

And rename it truth, spoken in love

Church

A place where you can find acceptance

As long as you believe what everyone else there does

And are willing to being a chameleon

To whatever hue the “kingdom” wears today

Church

A place that breaks my heart

Even as it claims to have monopoly

on the only path that will make me whole

Church

Another poor excuse for love
